Books

There is a fair amount of literature on men’s experiences of boarding school, but less on women and girls’ (and virtually none on queer experience, but that’s another story). Over the course of several years, people shared their stories with me; then Dr Linda Devereux, a researcher and herself a boarding school survivor, came on to the project to identify patterns. It became clear that people who were Third Culture Kids – who had lived overseas as children, often with very nomadic lives – had often had the poorest experiences of boarding school. Other major contributors are Dr Suzanne Zeedyk who wrote a very accessible chapter on attachment theory, Roe Woodroffe who gives a therapist’s point of view, and Dr Ulrika Ernvik who suggests ways of building a child’s resilience to protect against boarding school damage.

The book is published by Routledge, details here: https://www.routledge.com/Exploring-Boarding-School-Challenges-for-Women-and-Third-Culture-Kids-Worlds-Away-from-Home/Moxey-Devereux/p/book/9781032876313?srsltid=AfmBOopsdZa9gmQaCLobhTccwF8Gl__iZPHv3A8RhvZ8YEyDyfNowbcf

I have also written a couple of historical novels and a book of children’s short stories, which if you’re interested can be found on my Amazon page.
